March 3rd Deadline for Homestead Exemption and Tax Portability Looms

Only three more days left.

February 26, 2008 – Palm Coast, FL – Monday, March 3 is the deadline for resident homeowners to apply for their homestead exemption. It’s also the deadline for those who bought homes in 2007 to apply for property tax portability.

If you are a taxpayer who sold a homesteaded property in 2007 and purchased another home before January 1, 2008, you are eligible to apply some or all of the Save Our Homes tax savings to your new home provided you apply by March 1, 2008. Since March 1 is a Saturday, the applicationi deadline is extended to March 3. Portability is not automatic. You MUST apply through the county property appraiser’s office. It is also the deadline to apply for a Homestead Exemption. If you don’t apply, you won’t get the exemption.
