Home-Sale Data Will Be Revised Back to 2007, Realtor Group Says

No surprise here. Some properties are listed in more than one MLS. A sale is counted in each one.

The National Association of Realtors will restate four years of monthly home-sales data next week while leaving median prices unchanged.

NAR is correcting what it called an “updrift” in estimates caused by factors including an increase in the areas covered by the multiple listing services and a decline in for- sale-by-owner transactions, the group said in a statement earlier this week. The changes will be announced Dec. 21.

Toby’s Commentary: MLS is offered through local Realtor® Associations. Associations do not use one common technology platform. Some properties are listed in multiple MLSs.  Double listings can be counted twice. Normalizing data reported at a state or national level is difficult. I’m not surprised by the decision to restate sales numbers.
