Palm Coast, Florida – April 29, 2009 – This Friday, the FBI and the Property Records Educational Partners (PREP) are conducting a mortgage fraud seminar for those involved in real estate transactions; Recorders, Title Companies, Real Estate Agents/Brokers, Escrow Agents, and Lenders.  Special guests will be Vanessa Stelly, Jacksonville FBI Office and Angela Stewart, Special Agent, HUD Office of Inspector General.
Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the FBI nearly doubled between 2006 and 2008 and active FBI mortgage fraud cases tripled in that same period. Over $1 billion in losses occurred in the United States in 2008 due to land and mortgage fraud.  That number is growing exponentially.  Florida has been identified by the FBI as one of the top 10 mortgage fraud states in the country.
The Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) has obtained a national commitment from the FBI in Washington, D.C. to partner PRIA PREP Chapters with FBI Task Force Groups to create local alliances aimed at fighting land and mortgage fraud.
  • Learn how fraud is growing and how we can identify it.
  • Short Sales, Foreclosures, Quit Claim Deeds, Illegal Recordings, Unauthorized Negotiators.
