Local Flagler-based Organizations Release Pre-Electioin Straw Poll Results
The Flagler Votes Committee is a nonpartisan group of representatives from the Flagler County Chamber, Flagler County Association of Realtors and Flagler Home Builders Association.
Palm Coast, FL – October 16, 2014 – The weekend of October 11 and 12 brought thousands of guests to the 10th Annual Creekside Festival at Princess Place Preserve in Flagler County. Over the course of the festival, the Flagler County Chamber, Flagler Home Builders Association and Flagler County Association of Realtors hosted a Flagler Votes booth to share election information and conduct an informal straw poll for the general election. Guests attending the Flagler Votes Forum Tuesday, October 14 were also given the opportunity to participate in the straw poll.
The straw poll was administered using iPads and Straw Poll, an app available from the iTunes store. Instead of official election results, the straw poll totals, based on 125 respondents, are informal indications of voter sentiment at these recent events.
According to Flagler Votes Committee Chair Lea Stokes, the straw poll is a first for the committee and a natural extension of the voter education efforts.
“Our organizations teamed up to create Flagler Votes to educate voters and encourage turnout,” said Stokes. “The results of this recent straw poll may not be statistically significant, though they give us some insight as to which way the elections could go.”
Stokes noted that in reviewing the results, three races in particular were very close: Flagler County Commission District 2, Flagler County School Board District 2 and Palm Coast City Council District 4.
“There are a number of tight races out there. The good news is if you support a particular candidate, there’s still time to rally your friends, family and colleagues to support them as well,” added Stokes.

Not statisically valid.
This does not meet the definition of a representative sample and is not statistically valid. This is an interesting little limited exercise but was not correctly done. The danger here is that folks may think it’s a foregone conclusion of who will win and/or that they may be swayed in their vote.
