Flagler County Unemployment Up in August – Still Second in State

The unemployment rate in Flagler County rose to 16.4% in August, 2010 from 15.7% in July. Flagler’s unemployment rate was 15.3% last August. Florida’s rate rose to 11.7% from 11.5% in July.

Palm Coast, FL – September 17, 2010 – Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation released state and local unemployment figures today. Flagler County’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 16.4% from 15.7% in July. The rate was 15.3% in July 2009. Flagler’s unemployment rate remains second highest among Florida’s counties. Hendry County led with 20.6%. Indian River’s August rate was third at 16.2%.
These compare with the State of Florida where the rate rose from 12.2% to 12.4% and the U.S. rate which stands at 9.5%.

    That’s filed for claims for unemployment

    Not the actual number of unemployed. Many have exhausted their time to collect and have given up. It also excludes all those that abandoned there homes and went to areas that they could find jobs. Also many formerly one family homes in the area have become rooming houses for the unemployed and the many underemployed. The real rate is closer to 25%.
