Flagler County, FL Slips to Fifth Place in Year-Over-Year Population Growth but Maintains a Five Year Lead Among Nation’s 3,141 Counties.

Only one other Florida county (Sumter ranking 10th) made the top ten.

March 22, 2007 – Each year, the US Census Bureau publishes county population figures. The numbers reflect estimates based on data gathered by the Census Bureau since the 2000 census, finalized in April of that year. The new figures released today are for the period spanning July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006. They show that Flagler County ranked 5th among all counties in the United States and 1st among Florida counties. Only one other Florida county (Sumter ranking 10th) made the top ten.  Flagler’s 2005 – 2006 population increase was 7,039. This is slightly less than the 7,308 increase of the previous year but well ahead all other prior years.
From April 1, 2000 through July 1, 2006, the bureau estimates that Flagler County lead all other counties in the nation, with its population increasing from 49,835 to 83,084, a 66.7% increase. The study further estimates the components of growth. The “natural increase” was a negative 1,089 (4,449 deaths outnumbering 3,360 births).  Net migration was 34,535 of which 492 were international. If the ’05 to ’06 growth rate remains constant, Flagler County will easily pass the 90,000 mark this year.

Spend some money and then … GO HO

I agree with the previous comment.

During the six year period, Palm Coast went from a wonderful small town atmosphere mostly retirement town to a place no different than Daytona Beach or Jacksonville. It’s time the MAYOR and CITY COUNCIL recognize that growth must be managed, that residents wishes must be recognized and quality of life is more important than unbridled growth.

New potential residents … stop in WalMart, spend some money, go buy a BigMac and then get back on I95 southbound. I hear Miami is a great place!!

    220,000

do people not do their research before buying and moving here? Palm Coast is designed to be a city of over 220,000 residents. We are not even 1/2 way there… if you do not want growth do your research and make a better choice for your lifestyle.

This plan has been laid out for 30 years.

what will make this place like Miami or Boca is people like you who are grumpy and old and tired of life. There is much joy here in the beaches, the river and our parks and our children. If you don’t see that you are missing the boat.
