Flagler Co. Sheriff’s Office Months Behind in Serving Notices

Lenders and landlords suffer from undue delays in service of legal notices. Extended time to evict or foreclose means lost revenue, increased exposure to property deterioration and more.

Palm Coast, Florida – November 22, 2008 – I’ve been told that the Flagler County Sheriff’s Dept. is months behind in serving civil notices. The delay affects foreclosures and evictions. Extended time to evict or foreclose means lost revenue, increased exposure to property deterioration and more. Flagler County includes the cities of Palm Coast,  Bunnell, and Flagler Beach.

From what I’ve been told, the Sheriff bought new software to manage the process of tracking civil notices through the service cycle. Apparently, after several months of attempts to make the system work properly, it was abandoned, leaving a huge backlog.

The delay in providing service exposes lenders and landlords to additional losses from lack of revenue and increases the time during which the property is susceptible to retributive damage from property owners or renters. Neglected maintenance is also an issue as is vandalism of vacant homes. Neighborhoods suffer as well. Vacant and under-maintained properties diminish any neighborhood, making adjacent properties less valuable and perhaps less safe.

I wonder how much was spent to purchase and attempt to implement the new software. Our taxes are being collected but it appears that we are not always getting what we pay for. We should expect more.

The adds for Apple Macintosh, where the PC person looks a lot like Bill Gates may be at work here. The Vista system has been a disaster for many. The amount of money and time spent on it is now lost. With todays unemployment so high I hope he hires a few temporaries to get it done.
