Flagler Co. Population Reaches 112,067 as Growth Rate Slows

U.S. Census Bureau releases latest county population estimates (as of July 1, 2018). Flagler added an estimated 2,130 new residents vs 2,586 the previous year.

July 1, 2018 county population mapPALM COAST, FL – April 18, 2019 – The U.S. Census Bureau today released its latest population estimates of state, county, and metro areas. The population growth in Flagler County, the nation’s fastest-growing county for two consecutive years preceding the housing crash is reported to have slowed over the past two years.

The bureau’s latest estimates are for the period between July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018. During that period, Flagler County grew 1.9%, adding 2,130 new residents, down slightly from the 2.4% growth and 2,586 new residents the previous year and 2.8% growth and 2,931 new residents between July 1, 2015 and July 1 2016.

By comparison, between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018:

  • The U.S. population grew .62%, down from .64% the previous year.
  • Florida’s population grew 1.54%, down from 1.68% the previous year.
  • St Johns County grew 4.24%, up from 3.8% the previous year.
  • Volusia County grew 1.74%, down from 1.78 the previous year.
  • Putnam County grew 1.06%, down from 1.39% the previous year.
  • The Deltona – Daytona Beach – Ormond Beach Metro Area, which includes all of Volusia and Flagler Counties, grew 1.8%
  • Florida had three counties ranked in the nation’s top ten by percentage growth; Walton County #5 (4.5%), Osceola County #7 (4.3%), and St Johns #8 (4.2%).
  • The top three most populous metropolitan areas, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago all lost population between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018.
  • The Villages led all metro areas in eight-year growth from April 1, 2010 to July 1, 2018 with a growth rate of 37.8% but dropped to #6, growing only 3.1% in the year between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018.
  • Flagler County recorded 796 births, 1,319 deaths, and 2,642 net migration.
