Economic Development – Project Sprint Gets OK from Flagler County

Another local company is encouraged to stay; preserving existing jobs, and expand; creating new jobs.

Palm Coast, Florida – February 17, 2009 – Last night, Flagler County Commissioners approved an $80,000 incentive package for National Direct Response LLC. The incentive will preserve 40 existing jobs in Bunnell and add 60 more by June 2010. The economic development initiative has been cooking for a few months under the code name "Operation Sprint." The City of Bunnell will now take up the issue, considering additional incentives.

Both Enterprise Flagler and the Flagler Chamber of Commerce spoke for approval, citing the county’s high unemployment rate and property tax imbalance. The measure was approved by a unanimous vote.

Under the plan approved by the county commission, credits will accrue to National Direct Response based on their achieving specific goals, which include the 100 jobs, salary levels, and insurance contributions. If goals are not met, the company will be required to return unearned credits to the county. National Direct Response also plans to build a 15,000 square foot facility in Bunnell by 2011 and hire an additional 190 employees at that time.

National Direct Response is reportedly a "specialty marketing" company dealing with the medical industry. The jobs are rumored to be of a "call center" variety. The City of Bunnell is in line to discuss additional incentives next month. Neither final details of the agreement nor the company’s plans will be available until that time.
