Chinese Drywall Company Will Repair 300 Homes in 4 States

The settlement affecting homes in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi is likely to set a pattern for future settlements.

Palm Coast, FL – October 15, 2010 – Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co. has agreed to repair 300 homes in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. The move will likely set a pattern for the settlement of over 3,000 toxic drywall claims against the company.
The defective drywall was manufactured in China and brought into this country to address a building materials shortage arising from the housing boom. The toxic drywall emits fumes which corrode copper, silver, and plumbing fixtures. There are also complaints of health effects by some homeowners. Remediation of the problem is neither simple nor inexpensive. It typically involves stripping then replacing all drywall, copper (plumbing and electrical, and HVAC), and fixtures. For a typical home, the bill usually exceeds $100,000.
Most cases of defective drywall in Florida are found in south and southwest Florida. GoToby.com knows of only two confirmed cases in Flagler County.
