ForSaleByOwner.com Founder Uses Real Estate Broker to Sell Condo

After six months with no buyer, Colby Sambrotto brought in a real estate broker who said the price was too low. The condo received multiple offers and quickly sold for $150,000 above original price.

Palm Coast, FL – August 11, 2011 – An August 3rd Wall Street Journal article tells the story of Colby Sambrotto’s failed attempt to sell his New York City condo himself. What makes this story so interesting is that Sambrotto is the founder and former COO of ForSaleByOwner.com, the popular FSBO website.
After failing to attract a buyer for six months, he contacted a real estate broker. The broker told Sambrotto that his unit wasn’t selling because the listing price was too low. It was not attracting the right kind of buyer. After listing at a higher price, the unit received competing offers and quickly sold for $150,000 more than the original asking price.
I wonder if Mr. Sambrotto is enjoying his humble pie.
