Flagler County features 19 miles of beaches, public rose gardens, peaceful waterways, subtropical forests, and a coastline thriving with wildlife, including freshwater and saltwater fish, migrating turtles, dolphins, and sea birds.

The region’s temperate climate attracts many newcomers. With an average temperature of 71.4 degrees, Flagler County provides the perfect backdrop for a wide range of outdoor activities.

Flagler County Preserves

Bing’s Landing Preserve

Located in the Hammock on the west side of State Road A1A, Bing’s Landing lies along the Intracoastal Waterway. Visitors can view the ruins of Mala Compra Plantation and fish the Intracoastal Waterway from the pier. The preserve also has picnicking and boat launch facilities and now offers Kayak Rentals from 9:00 a.m. to  5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. 5880 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Palm Coast. Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve

This 217 acre preserve’s trails and boardwalk over the marsh offer visitors unique views of the salt marsh and coastal scrub communities. It also has a fishing pier and picnic and boat launch facilities. 815 Moody Lane, Flagler Beach. Hours: Dusk to dawn daily. Free admission. 386-313-4020.

Haw Creek Preserve (Russell Landing)

Tucked away in western Flagler County, this 1,005 acre preserve features boat launch facilities and a boardwalk that winds through the swamp with overlooks on Haw Creek. Other activities include hiking, horseback riding, picnicking and primitive group camping. County Road 2007, Bunnell. Hours: Dawn to dusk daily. Free admission. 386-313-4020.

Princess Place Preserve

This 1,505 acre preserve is at the confluence of Pellicer Creek, Moody Creek and the Matanzas River. Princess Place features salt and freshwater marshes, hardwood hammocks, uplands pine forests and oak scrub environments. The restored lodge, built in 1887, is the oldest standing structure in Flagler County. 2500 Princess Place Rd., Palm Coast. Hours 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Seven days per week. Free admission. 386-313-4020.

River to Sea Preserve

Located on both sides of Highway A1A at Marineland, this 90 acre preserve features a beachside boardwalk for ocean views, public beach access, walking trails and canoe and kayak launch facilities with access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Matanzas River and Pellicer Aquatic Reserve. 9805 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Marineland. Hours: Dawn to dusk daily. Free admission. 386-313-4020.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

On the barrier island south of Marineland, the park’s 389 acres of coastal scenery extend from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, the park has formal gardens featuring exotic plants from around the world. A self-guiding trail winds along the marsh and between the interpretive center and picnic area. 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Palm Coast. Hours: 8 a.m. to sundown daily. Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park

Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, this 145 acre park offers a nature trail through a coastal scrub community, ocean surf fishing, boat ramp, picnic area and camping area near the beach. Dune walk-overs provide easy access to the swimming area, while protecting the fragile dune system. 3100 S. A1A, three miles south of Flagler Beach. Hours: 8 a.m. to sundown daily. Bulow Plantation Ruins State Historic Site

Once the site of a prosperous early 1800’s plantation of sugar cane, cotton, rice and indigo, the park includes the scattered ruins of a coquina sugar mill, the foundation of the manor house and workers village, several wells and a spring house. Visitors can walk the scenic trail of drive the loop that leads to the ruins, the park’s interpretive center and nearby picnic area. On Plantation Road off Old Kings Road (CR2001), three miles west of Flagler Beach. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission: 3$ per vehicle. 386-517-2084.
