Dear Toby October 2008

Your Comments and Questions - My Replies

I receive several comments and questions from website visitors. To many, I responded individually. It occurred to me that some of these questions and answers would be of interest to all of you. I publish selected input and replies under the “Dear Toby” banner, with a new page each month to keep the pages short and readable. The most recent entry is at the top of the page.

Feel free to use the “Contact Us” button to send in your comments or questions. Your name will not be disclosed. Due to volume, I may be unable to reply to everyone.

Question:  Is there an Edwin Watts Golf Shop coming to Palm Coast?

Toby Says:  I understand that they were looking in the area but have not heard anything about a commitment.

Question:  Any idea when they are going to start work on and hopefully complete the Epic Theater planned for the Town Center Property?

Toby Says:  This is probably one of the most asked questions lately. Epic missed the timing to start construction in time to open for the summer season in '09. The next big date in the theater business is November 1. Given the time to build (about 10-11 months) they are not likely to pick up their building permit and start construction until November or December. Baring a worstening economy, that is what I expect them to do.

Question:  I noticed that the land by Matanzas Pkwy and US1 is being cleared. Do you know what they are going to build in this area? I heard it is called Matanzas Pointe. Do you have any information on this?

Toby Says:  There are really two different projects going on around the US1/Matanzas Pkwy intersection. Both are part of Palm Coast Park, a large mixed-use project  being developed by Palm Coast Holdings. On the east side of US1, the lots are being cleared and site work done in preparation for future commercial development. The north side parcel was planned for a future Publix, but their purchase of the Albertson's store in Palm Coast has caused them to step back from the Matanzas property. Palm Coast Park

The property west of US1 is being developed by Palm Coast Holdings as commercial on the portion fronting US1 and industrial behind (to the west).

Question:  When will the Publix open up again in the former Albertson's location on Belle Terre Blvd at Palm Coast Pkwy?

Toby Says:  The opening is planned for October 25, 2008.

Question:  I see some work being done on the west side of Colbert Lane across from the old cement plant. It looks like a small wooden bridge into the swamp. What are they doing there?

Toby Says:  They are building an elevated walkway that will circle several hundred feet through the wetland, connecting to the trail that follows the old Lehigh Cement railroad track west, leading eventually to Town Center and beyond.
